Water Project

CLEAN WATER CONSERVATION AND CONNECTION PROJECT

In a normal day at Spirit of Mercy Children’s Home we consume close to 1000 liters of water in basic home uses such as Drinking, cooking, laundry, bathing, cleaning and mopping surfaces. We are connected to clean tap water that we have access only once a week (Thursdays). We collect the tap water to tank 2,300 liters for drinking and cooking which is barely enough for a week. To cover up for the water shortage, we fetch water in a well next building. The well water is used for laundry, bathing, cleaning and mopping surfaces. Sometimes the kids fetch the water in the evening after a long day at school which is very exhausting. We wish to upgrade on our tap water collection facilities. This upgrade involves purchase of a large water tank with a capacity of 10,000. We also need to create a steel and concrete base on top of the washroom where we shall place the tank. Lastly we need to make a water connection network (run water pipes connecting various places in the orphanage) connecting the washroom, kitchen and laundry area. We believe this project will be a major hygiene boost here at Spirit of Mercy Orphanage.

  • Construction of Concrete slab
  • Purchase of water tank (capacity 10,000 liters)
  • Water connection
